Global Equity Markets dropped last week. The S&P 500 Stock Index fell 0.33%. Nikkei 225 index fell 3.47%. Taiwan Stock Exchange Weighted Index and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index fell by 1.89% and 2.01% respectively.
Bank of Japan announces Y2 trillion fund-supplying operation
The Bank of Japan responded to the recent turbulence in the Japanese government bond market Thursday, announcing a 2 trillion yen ($19 billion) fund-supplying operation after the 10-year JGB yield shot up to its highest level in over a year.
Gold futures went higher
Gold futures rose to one-week high on Thursday. Gold futures in June contract reached up $24.40 to $ 1,391.80 an ounce, rose 1.8%.
German economy escaped recession, supported by private consumption
Federal Statistical Office of Germany announced first-quarter gross domestic product (GDP) on Friday, which grew 0.1%. The German economy barely escaped recession. After adjustment, Germany's first quarter GDP fell by 0.2% comparing to last year.
