Global Equity Markets generally fell last week. The S&P 500 Stock Index slid by 1.84%. Nikkei 225 index got down by 1.99%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index dropped by 0.6%.
German business confidence rises for fourth month
German business confidence rose for a fourth month in a row in August, data showed on Tuesday, exceeding expectations as companies in Germany. The IFO economic institute's closely watched business climate index rose to 107.5 points this month from 106.2 in July.
Pending home sales slightly fall in July
Pending home sales fell 1.3% in July, a second month of declines, as mortgage rates continued to rise, according to the National Association of Realtors last Wednesday. Despite the recent drop, the pending-home sales gauge in July was up 6.7% from the year-earlier period.
US economic growth revised upwards to 2.5%
The US GDP grew at an annualized pace of 2.5% in the second quarter of the year, according to the Commerce Department last Thursday. The government initially estimated GDP at 1.7 %. The rise, helped by an increase in exports, is a further sign that the economy may be getting back on track.
US initial jobless claims fell 6000
Jobless claims in the week ended 24 of Aug dropped 6,000 to 331,000, the Labor Department said Last Thursday.
Japan's Core CPI rises 0.7% in July
Japan's core consumer prices rose 0.7% in July from a year earlier, marking the second consecutive month of gains and attaining a near five-year high, data revealed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications last Friday.
Japan's July industrial output rose 3.2%
Japan's industrial production rose 3.2% in July, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said last Friday. A survey of manufacturers saw modest gains going forward, with August expected to show a 0.2% increase in output, picking up to a 1.7% rise in September.
