Weekly Commentary - Technology giants disappointed market with their results
Technology giants, such as IBM, Microsoft, Intel, AMD and Google, disappointed Wall Street with their results. U.S. Technology benchmark, NASDAQ, lagged behind U.S. S&P500 Index by around 1.5 percent last week. Part of demands on traditional PC are shifting to the mobile platform, such as smartphones and tablets , rapidly. For those companies which are closely‐linked to the traditional PC sales and lagged behind the new trend could feel the pressure from the market. For example, Intel and AMD, expressed a weak outlook in quarter 4, because of the weak demand for PCs. Both of them are not fast enough to adapt their PC chip designs to mobile. Investors are expected to see the diverse development in the share prices for those fast adapters and laggers in the near future.
