U.S. stock market retreated for the second week amid persistent concerns over U.S. fiscal policy and the euro zone debt crisis. U.S. S&P 500 index and Dow Jones Industrials Average retreated by 1.45 percent and 1.77 percent respectively. U.S. stock market dropped by around 5 percent since Barack Obama was re-elected as U.S. President. |
In U.S., politicians from Republican and Democrat Party said they had a constructive meeting that aims to avert “fiscal cliff” last Friday. However, they did not provide further details.

In the minutes of the last Federal Open Market Committee gathering, some Federal Reserve officials thought U.S. Federal Reserve might have to broaden its monthly bond purchases next year.

In the meeting of Euro-zone finance ministers last week, Euro-zone finance ministers agreed to give Greece two extra years to reduce its budget deficit to 2 percent of gross domestic products. They postponed the decision on how to cover the additional financing needs of Greece to the meeting in 20th November 2012.

In September, Factory outputs in Euro-zone factories dropped by its fastest speed since January 2009. Industrial production plunged by 2.5 percent in September from August. |
Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda dissolved the lower house of parliament last Friday. Japan will hold a general election on December 16. Japanese Yen retreated by 2.24 percent against U.S. Dollar in one week as investors speculated the new government will ask call for more aggressive easing by Bank of Japan.

Hong Kong Financial Secretary John Tsang rejected calls from lawmakers to review the pegged exchange rate system. Asset prices are being driven to unsustainable levels because of record-low borrowing costs and depreciation of Hong Kong Dollar against Chinese Yuan. |
U.S. crude futures rose 0.63 percent last week as Israeli attacks on Gaza escalated conflict between Israel and Palestinians and raised the concerns over the supply of oil. |
